Karaoke (".kar") files are similiar to midi (".mid") files. Both formats allow you play digital music on your computer. But karaoke files have the added benefit of displaying lyrics if the file is processed with the appropriate software. Probably the most popular application to play karaoke files is vanBasco's Karaoke Player. As their website states: "vanBasco's Karaoke Player is a freeware product that plays Karaoke (.kar) and standard MIDI (.mid, .midi, .rmi) files."
Though my singing ability is limited to three or four notes around middle C, I still like to collect karaoke files as a hobby. Over the years, I have probably collected several thousand karaoke files, so I decided to post some of them on the Mystery Master website. If you are a member, the zip files are available to you. If you are not yet a member, please consider making a donation.
The following table displays my top 50 karaoke artists - those with the most karaoke files I have collected. Click on the artist's name to download the zip file containing all of the songs for that artist. There is also a featured song for each artist which you can play and/or download. Though the featured song is shown with underscores and no punctuation (to comply with the UNIX naming convention), the actual songs in each zip file have spaces and punctuation (which is acceptible in Windows). Also, my naming convention for each karaoke file is "Song Name - Artist Name.kar". If you have a karaoke file you would like to send me, email it to webmaster@mysterymaster.com.
